Programming the system

When starting with any SimonsVoss System, all products need to be fully programmed into the software which can be done away from the site in the comfort of the installers workplace.

Once all components have their initial programming, any subsequent changes that need to be made like access rights can be done in various ways.

There is always the choice to program either the user’s credential OR the lock in any of the programming methods below:

1. Offline – this is the simplest set-up and managing the software on a laptop is highly recommended. When a change is made in the software and the user’s credential is not available for programming, the laptop can easily be taken to the locks for programming instead.

2. Virtual network – this system comprises networked gateways while the rest of the locks are offline. This system is an excellent solution for customers dealing with contractors or agencies working within their organisation. It’s a common problem when handing a credential to non-permanent staff, as the likelihood of ever getting the credential returned can be very small. This system can be set up in such a way that the credential can have an expiry date, so access is limited to a specific time period.

3. Fully networked – this system is an excellent solution if full and fast control of the locking system is required. Every lock in the system is wirelessly connected to our router nodes which communicate with the locking plan software via a TCP/IP network and allow the software administrator to program access rights changes, download audit trails and remotely open any lock over the network.

The flexibility doesn’t end there. Every system mentioned above does not have to work independently from each other. It's very simple to have a mix of all three if that’s what you need.

If you want a fully networked system but don’t have the budget, you can install offline locks only networking the most important lock i.e. the main entrance or company records store. These locks will have the most access rights changes and require regular audit trail downloads. At a later stage, when a budget becomes available, it's very easy to increase the number of networked locks without having to change the hardware.
